
• We’ll ask you some questions to see if you’re potentially eligible to participate.
• We’ll tell you about the study in detail.
• We’ll answer any questions you have to make sure that you understand everything involved with participating in our trial.
• You will read and sign a consent form if you’re interested in participating. Participating in a study is completely voluntary
• We will ask you to complete a health questionnaire.
• You will receive a physical exam that includes an HIV test and a blood draw.
• We will talk with you about your sexual behaviors.
• We will review all the information to determine if you’re eligible to participate.
• Over the next 18 months, you will receive four shots. These shots could be the research vaccine, or they could be an inactive formula called a placebo. Half of the participants will receive the vaccine and the other half will receive placebo.
• You will be asked to keep a record of any physical reaction you have to the vaccine.
• We will monitor the effects of the vaccine through periodic blood tests.
• Your follow up visits every three months will include an interview, an HIV test, and additional counseling on how to reduce your risk of HIV infection.
